jump into my life - the life of a 19-year-old not-so-average teenage guy caught between toronto and saint john, striving for fame, fortune, and everything else.

one month from today. please go faster.

yes, my tacky online portfolio.

having done the Belfast Children's Program, (a program in which children from Northern Ireland visit Saint John, New Brunswick, for the entire month of July,) in 2000, I appreciate this story very much. let's hope peace finally comes to Belfast.

and it looks like a Liberal minority government for Quebec! allez-y, Jean Charest!

oh... and now, more than ever, I fucking hate school.
(don't think I'm ungrateful. I am.
...but this fucking sucks right about now! I'm sure it'd be the same anywhere, regardless of the university.)

And here's a late Friday Five. this one looks especially good.

1. If you could suddenly speak one language fluently (that you don't currently speak) what would it be?

ITALIANO! I would love to speak Italian... Such a romantic language! That or German, but probably Italian, because Italian is romantic, wheras German sounds... mechanical.

2. If you were to suggest a foreign film, that you really enjoyed, what one would you suggest?

"Life Is Beautiful," Italy.

3. If you had to call another country home (other than the one you currently live in) what one would you choose?

VIVE LA FRANCE. For fucking sure France!!!

4. If you went out to buy an import music CD, what one would you buy?

I would likely buy... Um... Classical British music. You know, uppity fancy pants orchestras playing ye olde composer's greatest hits of yore. (Does this count as international?)

5. If you were to chose an ethnic dinner, what would it be?

INDIAN FOOD. I have a recent obsession...
That or sushi. That's Japanese. (No, really?)

and speaking of multiethnicities, I'm off to watch the second episode of the CBC hit, "Little Mosque on the Prairie."

peaceeeeeee out
joel

P.S. OK I forgot to do my Friday Five last week too. and I need to answer, because it's for St. Paddy's, and little do you know, I'm 1/4th Irish... despite my overwhelming Frenchness.

1. What's your favorite shade of green?

Forest green. Soooo New Brunswick.

2. Do you wear green on St. Patrick's Day, and if not, do you ever get pinched?

I do wear green. But if anyone did punch me, I'd fucking take them out.
:)
Classy.

3. Do you do anything else to celebrate the holiday?

Um, some people eat pancakes. Some people drink in the morning. Some people do Irish jigs...
I don't do any of that. I just drink with my friends.

4. Have you ever consumed a green beer (or any other alcoholic beverage dyed green)?

Um, well not green beer, but DEFINITELY green Kool-Aid. that totally counts.

5. Do you have a good luck charm, and if so, what is it?

Yes, your mom.
(OH SNAP)

is this really my life?

yes, things are getting to be quite ridiculous in the world of Joel Vautour.

first off, thanks for the comments on the last post- nothing excites me more than seeing I have comments on here. oh baby.

so, things have been foolishness in the past week. the semester is reaching its apex, meaning things are nutty as fuck. (haha, that's fun to say, no? "nutty as fuck." very entertaining.)

this past monday I filmed the last part of our sitcom, "The Affiliate," for my Comedic Television Production class. it was a 7-hour shoot, soooooooo long and intense. BUT well worth it - when we're done the final editing and whatnot, it will be PIMP. oh yes. and then Tuesday... remember the religious soundscapes project I was telling you about?

if yes, skip the following yellow paragraph.

if no: for our Design In Media class, we decided to do a soundscape of various religions. we visited various religious institutes around the Toronto area, such as a Buddhist temple, a church of Scientology, a Catholic church, etc. etc.

so, in class on Tuesday, our professor played it for the entire class, and got MAD PROPZ. I am soooo proud. holla.
Wednesday was the first day of Spring. YES. a month from tomorrow I am home... ridonculous, eh? I'm searching flights as we speak. score. Thursday was a scramble to finish the dreaded Management Essay of doom and hell - it sucked ASS. but that's over with now, soon to be banished forever from my memory.

Friday - had class 10-1, then went off to the agency to pick up my comp cards!! hollaaaa! and I can therefore start castings and auditions - something I did today - SO EXCITING. and then I worked from 3-9, that was... long. and unnecessary. but I do need money, as I seem to be on a spend-all-you-can spree recently. oh well!

Saturday was SUCH A GREAT DAY. I went with ash to the eaton centre, and we went basically crazy. I helped her pick out a dress for the TARA Awards, which I don't know I'll be attending just yet. then I bought some really good stuff from American Eagle - yes, yes I'm a huge traitor. afterwards, ash and I walked down to St. Lawrence Market... and we passed quite the scene in downtown Toronto. the power went off in the mall right after we left apparantly... good timing eh?

but yes, then I went for lunch at St. Lawrence Market, chilled with ash in the afternoon, went for dinner at Sushi Sky, my new fave sushi restaurant, and finished off my night with my roommate Christina at Rockwood. $20 cover... but WELL worth it. oh, baby.

and finally today, I had my first audition - for a Good Charlotte music video! I danced with this (gorgeous model from Ford) girl, and then we had to pretend to argue and fight. BUT it was really fun - I have no idea whether or not I got it, but it was a blast!

anyway, I need to go start on my essay, but thanks for reading. comment... you know how happy it makes me. ;)

5 and a half weeks left... oh man

TRAGIC. this semester is like... stalling! sooooooo long. augh.

and I hate, hate, hate my living situation. it's basically hell. I came home from work Tuesday, only to overhear my [Serbian] roommate talking about me. and trust me, it was not very nice. at least I'm 99.9% sure it was me, he didn't actually mention my name. the painful part of this situation is that I can't / don't want to say anything about it, because technically I wasn't supposed to hear it. I can't get mad at him for disliking me. but it seems every night I'm calling a noise complaint about him, as every night is music blasting/bring-your-loud-friends over night. it's just hell hell hell... I'm making a room change request as we speak, it's pending at the Housing Office. I know I only have 5 and a half weeks left, but I don't plan on living here for any longer than I need to. ohhh, MAN.

my friend Alyssa is trying to get on the aftershow for "The Hills" in MTV Canada, it's pretty entertaining. she's going to MTV Live at least twice a week it seems. on Wednesday, she was required to make out with a gay guy, only to be judged by Ron Jeremy. how was your Wednesday?

I don't really hate work as much as I did, basically because I've cut my hours, and stopped caring about my job basically. Abercrombie is extremely easy money I've realized, and easy is something you want in a part-time job when you're a full-time student.

modeling is kind of stalling at the time being. my comp cards (what is that?) are coming in this coming week I believe. without my comp cards, the agency cannot promote me - alas why this past Toronto Fashion Week was non-existant for me. but it's OK. I just need to prove myself to my agency in the next 5 and a half weeks, if I want to go anywhere this summer. and if not, it's not the end of the world - I really do miss home a lot.

but I do enjoy my agency thus far, they're really fun. whether they'll promote me to where I want to go, we'll see! speaking of this, here's an entertaining article about my agent during this past fashion week.

so, school is whatever. we're shooting what will hopefully be the last part of our TV show for Comedic Television Production tomorrow - oh, God. it's going to last all day... I hate all-day shoots, augh.

St. Paddy's Day was pretty cool. however, it's just one of those things you have to do to the MAX or can't really do at all. the bars all fill up by 6PM, if not earlier. so, we didn't get into any bars unfortunately, but I'm quite allright really... I had a blast regardless.

I'm too lazy to write the Friday Five - this morning was HARDDDCORE! weight room & pool = good times. miss you all (if you're in SJ,) and if not, let's hang out, if you're in the TDOT.

yours
Joel

All around me are familiar faces, worn-out places, worn-out faces

The title doesn't reflect my current mood. It just reflects my current favorite song. Haunting.

I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad,
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles, it's a very very...
Mad world, mad world.

sorry for the lack of updating recently. I've been UBER-busy with school. soundscape project running all over Toronto, 5-page essay, two more essays coming up, work ... you name it, it's happening.

so, basically, here's what's new :
-we shot the first part of our comedic television production sitcom, "The Affiliate" last Wednesday. it's quite hilarious, perhaps it'll be up on YouTube once we wrap up production. being a television student is quite cool sometimes, no?
-my comp cards will be ready this week at the agency... meaning I will start castings and whatnot very soon, and start doing "real model"-type things. I've invested a lot of money into this, I just hope it pays off.
-Ben turned 9 last monday (the 5th.) I cannot believe it. he wrote an essay recently on the best part of his March Break: East Side Mario's for his birthday with everyone in his family but me.
-I am applying for television station internships for this summer in Saint John. thus far I've applied to CBC and Global, in hopes they'll offer paid internships of some kind. oh, that would be SO much better than Wyndham. oh... God. never again.
-I ran all around Toronto this past weekend for my religious soundscapes project. I visited the church of Scientology (yes, totally crazy,) the Toronto Buddhist Temple, and the Jarvis Street Baptist Church. In one day. oh, dramatic.
-My last exam is April 25th. kind of late. I don't want to be here for that long.

ok, so I think that's life in a nutshell right now. it's 2AM, oh man, why am I up so late! soooo bad. tomorrow's going to be 10 degrees and SUN. OH MAN!!!!!!!!!!

and you just know what I have to do before I fly.

1. If you could retroactively erase one TV show from the history of entertainment, which one would you choose?

Prrrobably a really tacky show that the world could have done without. Perhaps the Joan Rivers show? That show was scary as shit.

2. Are you more like your mother or your father?

I'm an equal divide I think. I have the athleticism, kindness and patience of my Dad. I have the extreme outgoing nature, optimism, and sense of humor of my Mom. I have hella good genes, what can I say!

3. If you could take a year-long vacation, what would you do?

UMMMM go backpacking in Europe, no doubt!!!!!!!!! HOLY yes.

4. Can you think of a reason not to answer this question?

Um, what? Lay off the crack, friday five. Thanks.

5. What's the nicest thing you've ever done for someone?

Uuuuuuuuuuum. I just do nice things on a regular basis. i.e. I bought a cake for my roommate for her birthday tonight. awww, shucks.

fin!

the hottest shit ever

http://entertainment1.sympatico.msn.ca/music/video?g=3E0444DA-AB76-4542-973A-8E4FD8214E2C

this music video... oh my God. ohhh my God. oh, shit son.

my weekend's been (kind of) fun. this coming week will definitely not be fun.

1. What do you like most: Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays (and why)?

Fridays. The whole weekend is ahead of you; it's very liberating.

2. What was the best weekend of your life?

Probably the weekend I spent in Paris in grade 12. But there are soooo many memorable times, it'd be hard to choose just one from my fabulous life.

3. What weekend of the year is your favorite?

Ahhhh...?!? I don't really have one. I just have favorite events, holidays, etc., but not favorite "weekends" persay. TAKE THAT.

4. Do you have any weekend routines?

In high school, Saturday was always my morning to go running. Here in Toronto, generally speaking, Friday is for going out and getting smashed, and Saturday is the night to stay in and chill. I usually do all my work on Sunday, because hey, that's what Sundays are for... That and wholesome church visits. And coffee dates.

5. Describe your ideal Saturday night.

Umm well I don't know. If I go out - I would have a big pre-drink with some really good friends, a looonggg 2 hour pre-drink, because that's the best part. And then we'd go to some sweet club, where everyone would have a good time. And then when we got tired, we'd all go to Fran's. Followed by going home with... :O!!! Non-wholesome thoughts!!! Oh nooo!!!

-the end-

I'm out to the Ram. T-minus 10 days until my first show. Oh, man.
