jump into my life - the life of a 19-year-old not-so-average teenage guy caught between toronto and saint john, striving for fame, fortune, and everything else.

Monday, January 29, 2007

I love cats, but I'm totally allergic.

it's Monday, January 29, 2007 - WOW. ever stop and take the time to think what day it is? ever stop to think about all the time that's passed, what you did in the past one, three, five, ten, nineteen years?

but yes, it's Monday, for me the most difficult day of the week. four hours of class - Existentialism from 1-2PM, which is totally interesting - and then Comedic Television Production 2-5, which is totally not. it's just 50 people in the same room, pitching ideas loudly, trying to be funny - such a waste of my time. (well, on the rare occasion it's insightful, but for the most part... man.)
anyway - sorry about that. my weekend was pimp! went out for dinner with Flora friday, to The One. totally thai. Friday night was "Fitchin' Friday," the abercrombie party. we started out in the party room at the Jazz condo building predrinking, and ended up at West nightclub. it was allright - not an extraordinary night, but pretty sweet. then Saturday was chill, did the gym in the morning, then did nothing in the afternoon, as I apparently wasn't needed down at the Cromb. went for dinner with Sana @ Salad King - and went off to my friend Shasha's 19th birthday bash. we went off to C-Lounge, it was hot... up until a random fight broke out, it was kind of creepy.

Anne Jones and I chill at the pre-drink at Shasha's bash.

Sunday I worked 12-5, annnd basically spent the rest of my day watching "Are You Afraid Of the Dark?" and "Ugly Betty." Both extremely entertaining shows.

I got a phone call from B&M Friday, my agent said my pictures were "fucking awesome." He said he really feels I'm "going away," i.e. going overseas to model. I don't even know what to think, I'm still quite sceptical, so I am chilling right now. I go into the agency Wednesday to pick out the pics for my portfolio, and perhaps look over a contract. Here's a sample pic from my shoot!

These aren't really my clothes. The stylist just gave them to me... I never look like this. lol.

Anywho, so now's the time for my Friday Five, because you love it.

1. Would you rather have a fun job that doesn't pay well or a boring job that does?

I'd rather have a fun job and get paid nothing. My payment will be not in dollars, but in FUN! (Just like real life.)

2. Would you sacrifice your morals for a job?

Um, it depends. I wouldn't become a porn star, I don't think, orrr a puppy killer or anything like that. It really depends.

3. Would you ever take a job that requires you to be in costume?

HELL YES. HELLLLLL YES.

4. What is your fantasy job?

Model, actor, singer, rock star, NHL superstar, orrr television personality. Any other suggestions?

5. Would you like fries with that?

I can't remember the last time I ate fries, foo. I'm trying to stay in MAD SHAPE.

Holla, holla. That was fun. If there's anything else I need to share, I will let you know. TAKE CARE. Have a sweet week, babies.

the beauty of having a blog is being self-centered with no consequence!

holla - long title, but oh-so-true.

basically, this is a post to illustrate a point, boys and girls: Joel's love life is defunct.

de·funct /dɪˈfʌŋkt/ [di-fuhngkt]
1. No longer in effect or use; not operating or functioning: a defunct law; a defunct organization.
2. No longer in existence; extinct: a defunct person; a defunct tribe of Indians.

This occured to me especially when I returned from my Christmas break, and discovered something quite unpleasant about a girl I was interested in. This does indeed illustrate a great fact brought up by my good buddy Kevin - though a bit extreme: Girls are not to be trusted.

But this isn't a post to bring attention to that [hilarious] video. It's basically just to say I'm single! And lonely, but only kind of. Not lonely in the unhappy isolated from society kind of way - I'm a socialite basically, I have SUCH good friends in my life, and I am privileged. However, these relationships are alas not intimate - and such intimacy is what I lack.

To hold a hand, to walk along the beach, and to whisper sweet nothings - please, don't vomit just yet, I'm just trying to be poetic. Girls just aren't coming to me here in Toronto. Not that I've persued too many of them hardcore - but I've definitely had my fair share of interests, none of which would come true.

That whole... "Wait until it happens" line is true, I know. It's just - hard. And I'll be perfectly honest, getting some is a part of it!!! Friends with benefits, anyone? Haha, just kidding. I'm very selective anyway. I should stop talking about this now. I think I've got my point across. And, if you couldn't tell, I am Exhausted with a capital E. Oh, man.

Anyway! School's fine, whatever. Yay, Ryerson. I had my shoot today with Richard Sibbald, it was sweet - great guy. And a good team of makeup/hair artists and stylists behind him - it was really fun. Now I just hope B&M likes the pictures, and I'm set. We'll see!

Oh, and my Mom might come and visit me in February. So excited, that would be amazing - especially since my only plans for Reading Week are working.

Yours,
Joel

just to tell you, straight up.

Just thought I'd post to give you a holla holla. Feels like I haven't done that in a little while. Damn, I rock.

Things I want to tell you:
-I have a photoshoot with Richard Sibbald on Wednesday, for B&M. I am absolutely so excited. Oh man!!! But I have to do well. And, well another thing - it's hella expensive. I have the money for it, but I am told by many people I shouldn't have to pay for the photoshoot, and that if the agency really wants me, they'll pay for it. We'll see. But if I do well, (knock on wood,) I'll get signed, and then I'll get jobs, and there you go. And I also have to work on my 6-pack. And my arms. I couldn't be more pumped, but I am hesitant to get too excited... Yet.

-Kitty Ryan of Video on Trial fame added me to Facebook today. I don't really know why, but I find that extremely exciting. I secretly hope she'll read this, and then secretly reccomend me to a MuchMusic producer, and they'll secretly contact me to secretly audition for the show, after which I'll not-so-secretly appear on the show. Oh, if only!

-My good friend Danielle e-mailed me last night. Her pipes burst in her apartment, I feel so badly for her! But - she just got promoted at work. So at least she can handle the financial burden of this event, though that really sucks. I hope she doesn't mind me writing about this, she is just on my mind and I wish her all the best.

-I got trashed last night, it was EXCELLENT. Joel + an entire bottle of wine + amazing friends = SO GOOD. Forget all this high-calorie beer and vodka shit - wine is the way to go. I'd also like to think it's vaguely nutritionally valuable. Went to the Ram, the Mick E. Fynn's, then Big Slice (can you believe I actually consumed that stuff?) THEN my friend Emerald and I snuck (yes, snuck) into Kerr Hall, and basically frolicked in the hallways for a wee bit, had a blast. Ha, frolicked is a great word.
-I think I made a mistake pertaining to someone I haven't spoken to in about a month because I was mad at them. Oops!!!

-I think the following photograph is pretty cool. I know it's just grass in the snow, but I am very proud of it:
Though it may not compare to my "Boardwalk" picture, which apparantly has gained fame since I added it to Facebook. I was advised by a friend of mine who goes to Acadia in Wolfville, N.S., that the girl beside her in class had it as her desktop picture. I was thrilled!!! I'm glad people actually enjoy my photography. To refresh your memory, this is the pic I'm referring to:

-My Comedic Television Production class is quickly becoming very overwhelming. Our teacher has been the director of the Red Green Show for the past 8 years, Bill Elliot. However, he wants us to finish our first production (a major one at that!) by WEEK FOUR. That is sooooo soon. Man! Totally foolish. But I'm with an excellent group, I'll elaborate on our concept later on. Hope I'm with them all semester long!

-I've been raping "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" on YouTube recently. SO GOOD! Brings me riiiight back to my childhood - except they do seem quite lame, really. Not gonna lie.

-Abercrombie is fun. And easy money. And hot people work there... But it's oh-so-dramatic. I try not to get involved.

-I'm good for now.

Feel free to comment!!!

Party Capital, you own my entire life.

"what is Joel referring to in his nickname?"

capitalfm.co.uk - on the weekends - they have a broadcast called "Party Capital" from 5PM - 11PM (Eastern Time,) it is effing RIDONCULOUS. I am blasting it as we speak. best dance music in the world, I am sure.

sooooooo this past week was foolish as anything. especially Wednesday, Wednesday was MONUMENTAL. why? Existentialism 11-1, then I went to B&M, I have my portfolio test shoot on the 24th!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHIIIT SON. sooo excited - it's gonna be expensive, though. whatever. I'm paying. and going through with it - I've waited a longgg time for this. and then I had class (Television Marketing and Promotion - 6-9PM.) and then I had a meeting for Comedic Television Production, from 9-11:30... :( so long. AND at the same time as all of this, I was doing my laundry. wow, I know.

anyway, it's friday night. still don't know what my plans are... I obviously have to do something, I'm a socilalite. haha. we'll see!

and without further ado - my famous, faaaamous friday five.

um - well it's an old one actually. I guess they didn't update it for today.

1) If you had to move 100 miles or more to the north, east, west, or south, which would you choose, where would you end up, and what's so great about there?

I would move 100 miles up north, to see where it would take me. At least it would actually feel like winter!

2) Do you have a favorite stretch of highway or byway for driving, touring, or wandering?

I love the road leading up to the Irving Nature Park, it's phenomeonal. Or High Park here in TO is quite lovely as well.

3) Are you happier to start a trip or return home?

Starting it! It's sooo exciting.

4) Plane, train, automobile, bicycle, or foot?

I'm a runner; by foot.

5) Do you overplan or underplan your travels? (Assume that "no" is not a valid answer.)

I ... um - I don't know, I've never really planned a trip before. But knowing me, it'd probably be planned to the last second. I'm cool like that.

I'm off to live my fun 19-year-old Toronto life.

get your sexy on

holla! I'm just getting back into the swing of things, it's pretty foolish. I have six classes this semester, they are the following, if you care:

-ENG 224, "Children's Fiction"
-BDC 401, "Design In Media"
-PHL 605, "Existentialism"
-BDC 402, "Management and Regulation"
-BDC 906, "T.V. Marketing and Promotion"
-BDC 958, "Comedic Television Production"

WOW. yeah... gonna be quite a semester. but I'm optimistic - obviously - just read the following article :

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/30112006/3/canada-happiness-poll-finds-bliss-new-brunswick.html

my week was chill. Monday, got back into town. Tuesday, re-oriented my life, had my first class, went to dinner at Oakham, then went to ash's for a few hours, we had MUFFINS. and we watched them, too.

Wednesday, holla, had Existentialism. SO DEEP. and then had T.V. Marketing and Promotion - our professor in that case apparantly is responsible for THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE, and regards us all as his "employees." i.e., "You wouldn't hand in something late to your class, would you? And you wouldn't just not show up to work - regard this class at your workplace." UMMM NAZI MUCH?? Yiiikes. Wednesday night was grrreat, chilled at Jenee's for a bit, then went to Floor 6 to watch back-to-back episodes of Nip/Tuck until 2AM. SUCH A F*CKED-UP SHOW! but excellent. there's lesbian cheating involved, awww yeahhh.

yesterday I had lunch with Irene at New Generation, it was SWEET TIMES. I love that place. then I bought a new shirt @ H&M, and then Irene and I parted ways - I stopped by work to discover I had no schedule, thennn that was lovely. had class 6-8, gross, Mangement and Regulation. I mean, it's boring, but I do like being in charge... ;) then we bolted from class all the way to North York for Annie's 19th birthday bash at her house. I vowed not to drink because I had class at 10AM this morning, but we all know that went downhill. it was good though, I played "Flip-Cup" for the first time, anyone know what that is? it was grrreat, but then I didn't go out after when everyone left, because I did have class at 10, and I need my sleep.

that brings us to today. class 10-1, but it only went til 12, Ash and I went to lunch. now I'm going to the gym, for a very long time, and then tonight is an Abercrombie dessert thing/some other party afterwards, I have a few to choose from... haha! it'll be a blast either way, I'm sure.

wanna see my friday five? yeah, yeah you do. don't hide your desire.

The Friday Five

1. Favorite cereal and why?

"Kashi" GoLean CRUNCH. It's delish, tonnes of protein, low fat, and really crunchy. What isn't there to love???

2. What is the best thing about summer?

Swimming at the beach, and grabbing an ice cream afterwards, lounging in the sun.

3. Would you rather have a slurpee or a milkshake?

Milkshake, it's got way more nutritional value.

4. If you could be a member of any band/musical group, past or present, what band would it be and why?

I would be my own solo artist, pshhh. And I hopefully will be someday - but for now, I'd be the sixth Backstreet Boy. Er, whatever successful boybands there are right now.

5. Who is your idol? What are they famous for?

My idol is Louis J. Robichaud, basically. He made the province of New Brunswick much more accomodating for the Acadians, and paved way for francophone success. I think he was a revolutionary, and is not recgonized quite enough. He left us two years ago, rest his soul.

end.

Also, check out this mad Freemason's remix of Beyonce's Ring the Alarm - phenomeonal.

First weekend back in TO for 007!

JOEL IS BACK IN TORONTO FOR 2007

...does anything else need to be said? um, no.

Thursday, January 04, 2007

good tunes, friday five, ongoing holidays!

hey -
so, if you have NOT READ MY 2006 YEAR-END COMPILATION, SCROLL DOWN TO THE MOST RECENT ENTRY AND DO IT NOW! and then leave a comment - otherwise I will hate you... well not really, but you understand.

OK! that being said, I am having an awesome holiday... except I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow. that's the only shitty part, but hey, life cannot be perfect. not the best way to kick off the year either, but I am SO pumped to go back to Toronto, damnnn. though I do love home, of course.

anyway - here's my friday five, late as anything, but hey.

///

1. Are you related to anyone famous or do you have any famous friends? If so, who?
Um, I am famous. Isn't that enough??? Haha no no, not yet anyway, but someday (soon?) I will be! As for famous relations, my uncle played in the NHL for 3-4 seasons, and my cousin Andrew has released an album under the name "Share," called "Ukelele Tragic," and he's touring the country in April, so that's pretty sweet. Famous friends? I have model-friends! My friend Adam was named #4 of the top 5 male models in Canada, and there's Anna and Albert! My friend Brock has been in several commercials, and my friend Ash is opening for a band in April, and will probably get a recording contract someday.

2. Do you have any autographs or memorabilia?
I have a hockey card with my uncle's signature - Yvon Vautour - on his very own hockey card.

3. If you could meet any 3 celebrities who would they be?
Nicole Kidman (hot milf)
Naomi Watts (hotter milf)
Dave Grohl, lead singer of Foo Fighters (also equally sexy)

4. What would you want to be famous for doing?
I guess I'm most likely to become famous for modelling, but I also write my own music, so maybe that someday. And acting, I've been acting since I was six.

5. Who's the most annoying celebrity?
Joan Rivers... or Star Jones. They both eat babies for breakfast... (Aka, are extremely frightening.)

Freemasons - Rain Down Love (dance) -- amazing
